Season 2022
There are a number of highlights in the 2022 program.
Our special guest Celia Craig (until recently the principal oboist of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra) returns to our region to perform a breath-taking rendition of Gabriel’s Oboe by Ennio Morricone. Lovers of Mozart’s music can look forward to hearing Celia perform the wonderful Adagio from Mozart’s string quartet K580
Our two local guest artists are soprano Amy Williams and tuba soloist Georgina Farrugia. Amy will sing the heart-wrenching song “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables with the Orchestra.
Georgina will perform a tuneful and charming new work written especially for her by Warrnambool composer Ken Stott. This three movement work gives Georgina the opportunity to show her virtuosity on this large, shiny brass instrument.
Also re- appearing this year is the Limestone Coast Symphonic Chorus, a group of enthusiastic choristers under the directorship of Rick Fisher. They will sing two works by Ken Stott set to the words of the poet Wordsworth. They will also be joined by members of a children’s choir from Newbery Park Primary School under the direction of their teacher Sarah Fewster. This combined chorus will sing the powerful song “I Am the Earth” by Glyn Lehmann.
Also included in the program is a sweet, atmospheric work titled “January” by Michael Lofting, an Adelaide viola player who often plays viola with the LCSO.
Other works in the gala program include The Gondolier’s Suite by Arthur Sullivan of Gilbert and Sullivan fame, and works by Offenbach, Jeremiah Clarke, Smetana, Wagner and Morton Gould. Something for every orchestra music lover.
